A Budget Cue with a Carbon Fiber Shaft!? JFlowers Cue Review Part 1
Просмотров 20 тыс.2 года назад
J Flowers Cues are smashing into the US pool scene hard with budget-friendly cues that come with a Carbon Fiber Shaft for under $320! Can you believe it? An entire cue with a carbon fiber shaft is over $100 cheaper than a Predator Revo shaft (no butt)? I know it’s hard to believe. So, does this cue even play well? One year later, I'm wondering what your favorite cue is and why. My views on cues has changed year after year. Looking back, I don't think cues make much of a difference...wood, carbon, kiel, etc. Today, cues over $300 are all good for the most part from what I've seen. I've tested many cues of my teammates and after a while, they are all the same. It comes down to preference in my opinion.

    • @PoolAddiction
      @PoolAddiction 28 дней назад

      I agree preference is key. Some people like different weights, balance, length, and diameter. All that comes into play with your preference. I do notice less deflection with the CF and keilwood shafts over a normal maple shaft. Some people don't like less deflection and that's a preference also. Thanks for the comment!

    I find my Revo 11.8 does come loose quite often. I have added tightening the shaft to my pre-shot routine, as the shaft comes loose often enough to make tightening the shaft mandatory for each shot just like chalking the tip. It is slick, but here in the Philippines the slick shaft is a real plus (high humidity). I have also dropped my cue enough times to make me appreciate the no nicks on the shaft. Even though this is four years after the initial upload of this video, I really appreciate your review. I like my Zan hard/medium hybrid tip on my Revo.

    I am 70 years old and off and on I played pool. I once owned a Mc Dermott about 30 years ago it cost $295. I’m thinking about playing more because I need to be more active because I just retired. I’m thinking of several brands, I believe having my own Cue. What would be a decent Stick to purchase? I miss more shots then I make and I am hoping with practicing and my personal Cur, it could help me. Thanks

    • @PoolAddiction
      @PoolAddiction 3 месяца назад

      I don’t think you need something that costs a lot and I wouldn’t recommend a carbon fiber shaft right away. Depending on how much you want to spend can depend which brand is good. If I went off of $300 like what you had 30 years ago, I’d say maybe Lucasi. If you wanted to a bare bones model a Mezz, Predator, or Joss might have one in that price range. Out of the three, I’d go with the Mezz.

      @@PoolAddiction I walked into a store run owned by an old timer, he knew the people that ran the pool hall where I bought my last Cue Stick from (211 Union Street, Seattle). I ended up buying a stick that felt great in my hands, and it has a leather handle. It’s the Mc Dermott 327. It’s a few hundred more than I thought I would spend, and looks completely different from the colors I had in mind, overall it’s brown. Seems like a lot of places that have pool tables around me open for business close to 3 PM. 2 I’ve found feature a Happy Hour for three hours. These run from $12.00 to $5.00. Thanks for your help, now I am watching videos on how to improve my shooting. It gets me out of the house, usually I play for 1.5 hours. Right now I’m just trying to make shots, practicing some draw and follow through.

    There is no such thing as kielwood. These shafts are simply maple that has been baked in ovens. And they also come with a finish, which is completely unnecessary, as roasted maple is completely dry and will likely never warp because it cannot hold moisture after being baked. Also would have been nice to hear how the shaft hit 5he balls without the music.

    • @PoolAddiction
      @PoolAddiction 4 месяца назад

      Yes the term kielwood has been pretty coined by the industry but it is torrified wood and I believe talked about it in either part one or two of the review of this shaft. As far hot sounds, there sound of hits in the part 2 video at around the 6:15 mark. Hope you liked the video and thanks for watching!

    I've packed my cue case in my roll away luggage. It just fits in on a corner to corner with the ends padded with my clothes. The hard case is made of the very stiff foam that have the tube hole for the cue which is a 4x8 case. Now just like one of your cases the cues do stick up a bit into the lid. But the luggage is 32 L x 13 W x 13.5 H and so far I've never had any problems and this a some what a soft duffle bag. I've been wanting to get a JB case now but it come a little taller and the case then won't fit, not sure if I can find a luggage that will meet the airline required limit for size, without having to pay extra. But I liked your video and I'm glad that someone else likes JB cases.

    I just ordered my first predator. 1/28/24 hopefully. I hit with the tiger, Jacoby, rouge, defy, meucci, cynergy, koda?, viking and I think becue? I narrowed it down to defy... But too "soft". Rouge (awesome) and cynergy (long taper lost it for me). So pechauer and predator felt like the ultimate so it came down to other intangibles. $950 for the pechauer i liked vs $944 for the predator i liked. Negligible. Both have lifetime warranties. All the dealers in my area said that both companies were extraordinary to work with. But predator came through in the end because they hold their resale value, the unilock joint which is much easier to come by than the pechauer joint and I can get the same extension for the cue for $75 less ($170 was insluting, even though most are doing that crap except cuetec and predator). Except for one guy that traded his predator for a Jacoby and one that traded his for tiger, I can't get anybody in the Central or Eastern Pennsylvania area to bad mouth that Revo shaft. Even my carom playing buddies are enamored of it.

    • @PoolAddiction
      @PoolAddiction 7 месяцев назад

      That's awesome that you were able to try all the different options out there. You're right about Predator holding their value, everybody knows them. I haven't used the Revo in a while but at the time I was 100% sold on it. I really liked the Becu shafts and still do. I found when doing these reviews, you're really spltiing hairs when it comes to performance but feel and feedback, which is subjective, is where the main differences are. Thanks for the comment! Comments like this really help out the community.

    how do you clean and maintain kielwood shaft?

    • @PoolAddiction
      @PoolAddiction 7 месяцев назад

      I mostly wipe it down with my towel when I am finished for the night for regular cleaning. The finish of the Hsunami isn't as porous as a regular maple shaft so it doesn't get as dirty like a regular shaft does. I have used some cleaners after it started feeling a little grimy and I used regular cleaners that you would use on a regular shaft. It did the trick but the paper towel had a light stain from the shaft in the color of the kielwood. The shaft looked ok but since then, I use a damp paper towel and then put a coat or two of shaft wax.

    What kind of mechanical rack is that? I want one

    • @PoolAddiction
      @PoolAddiction 8 месяцев назад

      It's called The V Rack. It's not cheap but it's a great option if you don't like a template rack and find bar racks too loose. I bought it mainly for a review. Here's the link. www.thevrack.com/

    Becue jump cue is the easiest jump cue I've ever used. Light enough that it's super easy to jump with it

    • @PoolAddiction
      @PoolAddiction 8 месяцев назад

      It's weird at first because of the weight or lack thereof. I love it though, never been able to jump at a really close distance until this jump cue. I really want to try the second generation.

      Is it the predator throne by any chance? Because that's the only predator line of cues that starts with T that I know of

    • @PoolAddiction
      @PoolAddiction 8 месяцев назад

      @@zanethind It's an SP2. I thought the wood started with T but I don't think it is after all, I found it on their site and it's stained maple.

      How would you describe the hit of the Nitti? Is the butt fat or normal?

    • @PoolAddiction
      @PoolAddiction 8 месяцев назад

      @@joshsomebody832 the hit feels more or less comes from the shaft, but the cue butt has a lot to do with the balance which effects how the cue feels in your hands in your stroke while shooting and it feels real solid. Some like cue that's perectly balance to where you don't feel the cue at all in your hands, for me though, I like something that's close to that but is ever so slightly forward balanced so the weight follows through the shot. A lot of production cue are more rear balanced due to the weight bolts being in the butt of the cue. I guess when I think about it though, the balance does make the hit feel a certain way and I'd say I like the feel. As far as the thickness, I forget the measurement but it's thicker than a Predator but it's not really thick. It has a really nice taper which makes it feel right.

    dr dave deflection test is MORE accurate and it also matches what predator say that the revo pivot at 19 in ther website

    • @PoolAddiction
      @PoolAddiction 8 месяцев назад

      The one problem I’ve found with some of my testing is that I’m on a 7 foot table instead of a 9 foot. When I did this I tried to do Dr Dave’s pivot test using the side pockets like he did, however, I found myself with my bridgehand practically in the other side pocket. I’ve since started using the corner pocket instead. It’s not ideal but it works better since I’m on a 7 foot.
